I am sitting in a local cafe ruminating on the nature of practice. I have taught every day this week and notice a marked difference in the way I feel after a daily practice with others. One of the difficulties of being a yoga teacher, as I have begun to discover, is that personal practice often gets pushed aside due to constraints in time or, quite simply, self-discipline. While I can feel the benefits in my body from practicing daily, I am aware that self-discipline in the further development of my personal practice is a necessity, not just a wish. I can only teach from what I know and experience in my own body and as I come to the end of the year, I can look forward over the coming months to developing my home practice for the benefit of myself and my students.
